PlantCare Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 19, 2026
PlantCare ("the app") is a household plant-care app operated by Jorge Vergara ("we", "us"). This policy explains what data the app handles and why.
What we collect
- Account information: your email address and the display name you choose, used to sign you in and identify you to other members of your household.
- Household content: the plants, photos, care details, and care history you and your household members create in the app. This content is shared with — and only with — the members of your household.
- Device push tokens: an anonymous token per device, used solely to send you watering reminders. You can turn reminders off in Settings at any time.
We do not collect analytics, advertising identifiers, location data, or contacts. There are no ads and no third-party tracking in PlantCare.
Plant photo identification
When you use the "Identify with AI" feature, the photo you selected is sent to Anthropic's Claude API to identify the plant and suggest care details. The photo is used only to produce that identification. Under Anthropic's API terms, API inputs are not used to train their models. Photos you attach to plants are otherwise stored only in your household's private storage.
AI-generated content
Plant identifications, suggested care details, and any other automatically created content in PlantCare are generated by artificial intelligence. AI can make mistakes — identifications may be wrong, and suggested care information may be inaccurate or incomplete. Always review AI-generated results before relying on them, especially where a misidentification could matter (for example, plants that may be toxic to people or pets). This content is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, and we are not responsible for any loss or damage resulting from reliance on AI-generated content. You are responsible for verifying it before acting on it.
Where your data lives
Data is stored in Google Firebase (Firestore, Cloud Storage, and Firebase Authentication) in Google Cloud's Canadian region. Watering reminders are delivered through Expo's push notification service, which processes only the device token and the notification text.
Who can see your data
Only the members of your household (people who join with your invite code) can see your household's plants, photos, and care history. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with anyone else. The only third parties that process data are the service providers named above (Google Firebase, Anthropic, Expo), each solely to provide the app's functionality.
Data retention and deletion
Your data is kept for as long as your account exists. You can delete your account from the app's Settings screen, which permanently removes your account, profile, and device tokens. To request deletion of a whole household's content, or for any other privacy request, contact us at the address below.
Children
PlantCare is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will update this page and the "last updated" date above.
